Loughborough Firsts cruised to an impressive 12-0 BUCS victory over Nottingham in the Women’s Tennis League on Wednesday morning.
The home side’s doubles pairing of Emma Smith and Vanda Zebranka were quick to make an impression, seeing off the Nottingham pair 6-0, 6-0. Amanda Elliott and Josie Inverdale encountered more resilient opposition however, needing a 10-8 tie-break win to claim a 6-3, 7-6 victory.
Elliott, inspired by the form of Smith and Zebranka in the doubles, then went on to take an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win in her singles rubber, ensuring Loughborough were to get another two points.
Loughborough’s Zebranka made way for Immie Harry for the singles match, a move which paid off as Harry also achieved a straight sets victory 6-0, 7-5, to move Loughborough into an unassailable 8-0 lead.
With Loughborough looking very difficult to beat, Smith made it 10-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory before Inverdale finished off a great day for Loughborough women’s tennis with a 6-4, 6-2 win.
With Durham already crowned League Champions, Loughborough are unable to mount a challenge in their remaining games, but today’s win has succeeded in guaranteeing themselves second spot in a strongly competitive division.
